Senior Database Administrator/ Database Administrator

JOB PURPOSE

Provide a seamless flow of information by keeping the database running smoothly. Ensure data security and integrity, including implementation of access controls, backups and recovery plans.

Execute disaster recovery plans and procedures to ensure database availability during system outages or dysfunction.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Build database systems of high availability and quality.
Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required.
Use high-speed transaction recovery techniques and backup data.
Ensure the smooth running of replication.
Minimise database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses.
Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards.
Design and implement database in accordance to end users information needs and views.
Take proactive and preventive measures.
Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity.
Deploy/monitor Linux servers, implement good practices and deploy new requirements.
Ensure availability of critical Linux servers.
Automate processes with the use of scripting techniques.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS *

Bachelor degree in IT, ICT Computer Science or any related field
At least 3 years' experience as a Database Administrator
Oracle Certified Associate
Oracle Certified Professional
Linux certification would be an advantage

* Depending on the qualifications and experience, the candidate may be considered for Senior Database Administrator

COMPETENCIES

Good knowledge of PostgreSQL
Good knowledge in Linux deployment/administration
Hands-on experience with database standards and end user applications
Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity and high-availability
Familiarity with database design, documentation and coding
Previous experience with DBA case tools (frontend/backend) and third party tools
Problem solving skills and ability to think algorithmically
Other skills: MS Office, analytical, self-organisation, team spirit, multi-tasking, etc
Additional Technical skills: Apache, Tomcat, MySQL, Java, Linux/Unix, etc
Solution driven and optimization of processes
Knowledge in project management and priorities
Good communication skills in English and French
