Lead – International Banking
JOB PURPOSE
The Lead – International Banking plays a pivotal role in leading the strategic growth of the international banking liabilities portfolio, with a core focus on delivering payments and cash management solutions (account opening, transactional banking, term deposits, BCP Connect – ebanking platform).
The main focus will be on driving client acquisition and retention, enhancing product capabilities and ensuring operational excellence in servicing cross-border and international clients. The position plays a key role to establish the bank as a trusted partner for global transaction banking needs within local intermediaries and foreign corporates.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic Contribution:
- Collaborate to define and lead the strategic direction for international banking liabilities portfolio, with a strong emphasis on payments and cash management
- Align international banking initiatives with the bank’s overall growth objectives, ensuring synergy across departments in terms of Private Banking, Retail Banking, Specialised Lending and Investment Solutions
- Position the bank with external stakeholders as a leading player within the Mauritius IFC
- Engage with internal stakeholders to continuously improve the end to end client experience with the bank
- Business Development:
- Lead the development and execution of strategies with clients and intermediaries with focus on deepening the banks wallet share
- Serve as the primary point of contact for strategic clients, delivering solutions across payments, liquidity, and cash management
- Monitor the performance of the international banking portfolio, including deposit levels and cross-selling opportunities
- Risk Management and Compliance:
- Ensure department full compliance with local and international regulatory frameworks, including AML/CFT, KYC, FATCA and other relevant standards set by the Bank of Mauritius and international regulatory bodies
- Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with the inherent profile of the international banking portfolio
- Maintain robust governance and control frameworks to safeguard the bank’s interests and ensure integrity in all client and transactional engagements
- Ensure portfolio periodic reviews are conducted in a timely manner
- Team Leadership & Staff Development
- Lead, supervise, and support the international banking team to ensure optimal performance and execution
- Set clear goals and expectations, conduct regular performance reviews, provide coaching and mentoring to staff under responsibility
- Promote a working environment that values collaboration, respect and open communication with internal and external stakeholders
- Identify training needs and facilitate professional development programs to enhance team capabilities
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
- BAC+4 - Postgraduate Diploma in Banking, Finance or related field
- At least 12 years’ working experience with a minimum of 5 years in the Banking sector ideally Corporate Banking as Assistant Relationship Manager or Relationship Manager
COMPETENCIES
- Possess good knowledge of the economic, fiscal, regulatory, and legal environment
- Excellent knowledge of banking and financial regulations
- Very good understanding of Global Business, and the Mauritius positioning as an International Financial Centre (‘IFC’), including a good understanding of Trusts, Funds, Global Business Corporations amongst others
- Good knowledge of KYC and CDD policies and operating procedures
- Good knowledge of AML/ CFT
- Indepth knowledge of Corporate Banking products
- Ability to lead, motivate and develop a team to achieve performance goals
- Capacity to engage confidently and professionally with senior client stakeholders including CEOs, CFOs, and business owners
- Ability to remain composed and solution-focused
- Proactive in addressing challenges and turning them into opportunities for growth and learning
