Head of Corporate Client Coverage

JOB PURPOSE

 

The Head of Corporate Client Coverage is responsible for (i) managing and developing the Bank’s Domestic and Global Business banking activities; (ii) growing and diversifying the Bank’s MUR / FCY asset & liabilities portfolio; and (iii) leading and mentoring a team of Relationship / Assistant Relationship Managers.

 

For the Domestic banking segment, the main responsibility is to deliver core banking services to domestic corporate clients ensuring credit quality, operational excellence, maintaining high service standards, and fostering a customer-centric culture. 

 

For the Global Business banking segment, the key role is to drive the strategic growth of the foreign currency asset & liabilities portfolio, with a core focus on account opening, transactional banking, commission income (FX, transactional, etc.), call & term deposits, subscription to BCP Connect – ebanking platform, etc.).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Direction & Leadership
    • Formulate and implement the client coverage strategy for the Domestic and Global Business banking, aligned with the Bank’s growth strategy and risk appetite.
    • Position the Bank with external stakeholders as a leading player within the Mauritius IFC and leverage on Groupe BCP’s presence across the African continent.
    • Originate, structure, customize and propose appropriate risk mitigation measures for financing solutions to meet clients requirements as per the Bank’s risk appetite.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (credit underwriting, risk, legal, operations, treasury), Groupe BCP and its subsidiaries to ensure seamless execution.
    • Develop and diversify networking to identify opportunities with corporates, management companies and other financial partners.
    • Negotiate financing & security terms, documentation clauses, closing arrangements, etc., and support & defend credit requests in credit forums.
    • Provide insights on market & pricing trends, customers’ needs and competitive dynamics to management.
    • Participate in cross-functional projects/ committees and contribute to the growth and transformation of the Bank’s banking activities
    • Engage with internal & external stakeholders to continuously improve the end-to-end client experience with the Bank.
    • Contribute to the Bank and/ or Groupe BCP’s initiatives to strengthen the Bank’s position in terms of client and group client coverage.
  • Business Development
    • Lead the development and execution of strategies with clients and intermediaries with focus on deepening the banks wallet share.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for strategic clients, delivering solutions across payments, liquidity, cash management.
    • Monitor the performance of the banking portfolio, including credit monitoring, customer behavioural patterns, disbursement & repayment trends, deposit, facility utilization and exposure levels.
    • Identify and refer cross-selling opportunities to the other business lines (Financial Institutions, Trade & Syndication, Private Banking, Business Centre desks).
  • Portfolio & Risk Management
    • Oversee the performance and credit quality of Domestic and Global Business banking portfolios.
    • Ensure compliance with local, international and Groupe BCP’s regulatory frameworks while promoting proactive portfolio monitoring.
    • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with the inherent profile of the portfolio.
    • Maintain robust governance and control frameworks to safeguard the bank’s interests and ensure integrity in all client and transactional engagements.
    • Ensure portfolio periodic reviews are conducted in a timely manner.
  • Team Leadership & People Development
    • Lead, supervise and mentor a team of high-performing relationship managers across the Domestic and Global Business segments, to ensure optimal performance and timely execution.
    • Embed a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation across the department and the bank.
    • Set clear goals and expectations, conduct regular performance reviews, provide coaching and mentoring to staff under responsibility.
    • Promote a working environment that values collaboration, respect, and open communication with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Identify training needs and facilitate professional development programs to enhance team capabilities.
    • Build cross-functional synergies with Financial Institutions, Credit Origination & Underwriting, Treasury, and Risk to deliver integrated solutions to clients.
  • Governance & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Represent the business line in committees, industry bodies, conferences and regulatory engagements.
    • Ensure full adherence to internal policies, governance standards, and ethical business conduct.
    • Provide regular portfolio insights and market development to reporting line.

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS 

  • BAC+5 - Master in Banking, Finance or related field
  • At least 15 years’ working experience with a minimum of 10 years in the Banking sector ideally Corporate and International Banking

 

COMPETENCIES

  • Possess good knowledge of the economic, fiscal, regulatory, and legal environment
  • Excellent knowledge of banking and financial regulations
  • Very good understanding of domestic banking products, services and operations
  • Very good understanding of Global Business, and the Mauritius positioning as an International Financial Centre (‘IFC’), including a good understanding of Trusts, Funds, Global Business Corporations amongst others
  • Very good knowledge of credit processes, financial analysis and portfolio management
  • Good knowledge of KYC and CDD policies and operating procedures
  • Good knowledge of AML/ CFT
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop a team to achieve performance goals. Capable of succession planning and nurturing future leaders in client coverage
